Miniature Donkey Foals of 2012
Elms Farm Miniature Donkeys

Miniature Donkey Foals - the Ultimate "Warm Fuzzies"

Miniature donkeys are among the most adorable creatures, and miniature donkey foals are the cutest, most adorable of all. While there is not a "miniature donkey for sale" sign on every mini donkey foal, we thought you would enjoy seeing them all.

These miniature donkey foals are the result of thoughtful breeding of our quality, registered miniature donkey jacks and jennets. In order to produce miniature donkeys of the highest quality, each mating is carefully planned to strengthen the characteristics of the parents. If you have specific interest in a particular miniature donkey foal on the way or one on this page, please let us know. We invite you to visit our donkey brood jennet page where we list which jennet is bred to which jack and the approximate due date.

Gray and White Spotted Jennet
DOB: August 3, 2012
MDR #pending

Sire: LN O Pips, 29" Brown & White Spot
Grand Sire:  LN Mr. Pipsqueak, 27.5" Black
Grand Dam:  LS Olivia, 30" Spot

Dam:  LN Niobara, 31.5" Gray-Dun
Grand Sire:  LN Nickolodeon, 32" Brown/Gray-Dun
     Grand Dam:  Lazy N Niah, 33.75" Gray-Dun

Splendid, just adorable! Went to a family reunion and came home to this delightful little jennet. Now, we know that spots can change their colors, so what color will she be? Red and White Spotted? Will she frost out to mostly white? Will the color spots darken to brown, or possibly gray? Time will tell. Whatever her color, this is a very pretty little jennet, and we are enjoying her in the pasture this summer.

Lovely, quiet natured jenny, nice spotted pattern. The red tones in her foal coat have disappeared, and she is now gray and white spotted, with big red toned ears. Very easy to work with. Staying small, she measured 28.75" September 27, 2013.

2 Red Jacks
DOB: July 15 and 17, 2012
MDR #pending

It was a busy month in July. One of the jennets we bought in Nebraska foaled. We knew she was pregnant, but did not expect her to foal quite yet, and we had not removed her from the group. Well, there were two busybody jennets in that group with her. We think that the combination of a maiden jennet with her first foal, separation from her buddies who came from Nebraska with her, and  interference by these two jennets, were the reason she rejected her foal. I found her at 1 AM, the foal dry, and this jennet was as far from him as she could get, while the two bossy jennets were babysitting him (but not letting him nurse, they were late stage pregnant themselves). I tried hard to get her to accept the foal, but it was clear she was having nothing to do with him. I milked colostrom out of her for the foal, and he has been a sturdy little guy from day 1.

8 hours later, I decided to try to foster the foal on an experienced mother jennet that had foaled the day before. The good little Mama donkey was a bit confused, as her own foal was standing under her nose, while this little guy was nursing. But she never threatened to kick him, and she let him nurse. In about 6 hours she was letting him nurse as well as her own foal. It is a funny sight to see them both nursing at one time. For the longest time "Mama" would reach back and nuzzle her own foal, then turn around and nip the "brat". I told her she did not have to love him, just feed him. Meanwhile, the two little jacks have bonded, and are always together. We call them the Milk Brothers.

At this time I am posting them on our web page with out pedigree, as we haven't yet decided if we will sell them separately as jacks, or sell them as a pair as geldings. They are never far from each other. Enjoy these pictures, they are fun little donkeys to watch!

Brown Super Wooly Jennet
DOB: 7-7-12

Sire: GJR Little Red Hairy, 30" Red Wooly
Grand Sire:  MGF Little Pink Harry, 30.5" Gray & White Spot
Grand Dam:  CP's Millimeter, Dark Brown

Dam:  Heieken's Ark Anneke, 32" Brown and White Spotted Wooly Jennet
     Grand Sire:  L.U.A. Maxx's Little Buckaroo, 30 3/8" Black
Grand Dam:  Gardner's Anna B., 32.25" Gray & White Spot

She's a woolly little jenny with fine textured hair. Very friendly, I have only been able to get a couple pictures of her that are not nose shots, as she comes right up to me whenever she spots me. Round hip, good legs and chest. Fluffy hair that blows in the wind. Her color is getting darker as time goes on.

Anneliese has fabulous very thick, long hair. She is what we call a Super Wooly. Here are some pictures of her taken November 27, 2012. I just love the picture of her galloping with her hair all blowing in the wind. She loves to gallop right up to us, so this is something we see often. Great outgoing little jenny! The light in the second picture makes her look darker than she is, but it shows how elegant and well balanced she is.

Sire:  The Elms Rembrandt, 31 7/8" Black w/Cross

     Grand Dam:
L P Cocoa, 32" Black/Brown

Dam:  Wee Ones Lots of Dots, 32.5" Black and White Spotted
Grand Sire:  Pandy's Kollerman, 35½" Dark Brown/White Spot
     Grand Dam:
Cornell's Stormy, 34" Brown/Gray/White Spot

When you breed with a jennet like Lots of Dots (twice ACOSA National Champion), you are, of course, hoping for lots of spots in the foal. So that is why he is called Not a Dot. That name is unlikely to be his final registered name. But color is only skin deep, and taking a good look at this jack, we really like what we see. Stocky, perfect bite, wide chest, straight legs, upright head carriage, well balanced movement. He has lots of eye appeal, which could make him a great show donkey, and afterwards a really good breeding jack.

A black jennet with soft silky hair. Elegant, as all of Black Lace's foals have been, up-headed and showy. She also greets me at the fence every time I come near. Top it off a willing attitude, look at the picture of her walking at two months old. The bottom pictures were taken in August, showing how her black foal coat has bleached for now, and she will come back to black next year when she sheds out.

Dam: Bainbridge's emerald Isle, 32.5" Dark Brown and White Spotted Wooly
Grand Sire:  Arrow Creek Harry Houdini, 34" Black
Grand Dam:  MGF Venus Ezri 620, 33.5" Very Dark Brown & White Spotted

Harper is one of the first foals sired by our 30" sorrel wooly herd sire, Little Red Hairy. And we are very happy with these foals. Harper has lots of hair, and the rest of him works well too. This first picture shows his black color when he was 2 weeks old. It also shows the amount of hair coming in already.

These other pictures were taken on Thanksgiving Day. He has really nice build, with a good wide chest, straight legs, nice back line, and a very pretty head. He is well balanced. The foal hair has bleached to the auburn color that the black donkeys often do. Harper likes to hang out at the pipe gate, waiting for me, so he has rubbed some of the long hair off his shoulder and neck, but it lets you see the black color that is underneath all that hair.. Harper is super wooly, you can see how long his hair is as it blows in the light breeze, so very cute. Interesting genetics with this jack. He is black, and carries red from his sire. His dam is spotted, so he also carries spotted pattern genetics.  Hairy's foals have all had winning, out going personalities, another breedable trait. Harper is a very nice herd sire candidate for a long haired breeding program with miniature donkeys.

Wonderful foal to start the 2012 season. His dam decided to leave the clean, dry barn, and give birth in the paddock in the rain! He sure is a very nice  built foal, small, with a nice spotted pattern. It will be interesting to see how his color changes, as the spotted donkeys often do. Right now he has one black spot high on his back, the rest are dark brown. Both parents are wooly donkeys, so we are confident he will be too. This first picture shows him one day old.
